Wire & cable we buy
Sell surplus aluminum wire in Indiana
Aluminum building wire, service entrance cable, URD and USE-2 in reels, partial reels and unused cut lengths from Indiana businesses.
Aluminum carries a large share of the service entrance, feeder and utility work in Indiana, and it turns up as surplus for the same reasons copper does: a subdivision phase that closed out, a service upgrade that changed size, or a distributor dropping a slow size from stock.
Aluminum is lighter than copper for the same ampacity, which makes reels easier to handle and freight cheaper. It is also easier to misidentify, because the conductor is silver in color and the jacket print does the real work. The legend should say aluminum, AL, or AA-8000 series alloy.
We buy aluminum wire and cable that is identifiable and still usable. Bare aluminum conductor and heavily oxidized material are usually a metal recovery question rather than a cable purchase.
What we buy in this category

- Aluminum SER and SEU service entrance cable
- URD and USE-2 direct-burial aluminum cable, single and triplex
- Aluminum feeder cable and mobile home feeder
- Aluminum MC and armored cable
- Aluminum building wire in partial reels and cut lengths
- Triplex and quadruplex overhead service conductor
- Sealed and opened reels with legible tags
Aluminum products we review
The metal matters as much as the type. Confirm aluminum from the legend rather than from the conductor color alone.
| Product | Typical description | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| XHHW-2 aluminum | 600V building wire, #12 to 1000 MCM, often feeder and sub-feed | Legend photo showing AL or aluminum and the size |
| Aluminum SER | Service entrance cable, 2, 3 or 4 conductor with ground, 600V | Reel tag plus a view of all conductors |
| Aluminum SEU | Service entrance cable with a concentric neutral, often 4/0 and smaller | Photo of the cable end showing the neutral strands |
| URD | Underground distribution cable, single or triplex, 600V | Reel tag and the printed size on the conductor |
| USE-2 | Underground service entrance, sunlight and moisture resistant | Legend photo and remaining footage |
| Mobile home feeder | Four-conductor aluminum feeder cable, 600V | Full reel photo and the printed conductor count |

Cable marked CCA or copper-clad aluminum is not the same product as solid aluminum or copper. Note it clearly on the form, because the value and the acceptable applications differ.
What makes a submission easy to price
Aluminum submissions are settled by the jacket print. Two clear photos usually answer every question.
- The printed legend, showing the metal, type and voltage rating
- The reel tag, showing footage, size and manufacturer
- A photo of the cable end, showing conductor count and neutral construction
- The number of reels and whether they are sealed
- For URD, whether it is single conductor or triplex
Condition and quantity
Unused aluminum with factory-sealed reels and legible tags is the strongest category. Nothing needs to be verified except the tag and the reel count.
Partial reels are common in service work. Provide the approximate remaining footage and confirm that the exposed end has been kept dry and capped where possible.
Oxidized or badly weathered aluminum conductor is normally treated as metal recovery. Surface oxidation on a sealed reel is not the same problem as a reel left outdoors for years.

Aluminum wire questions
How can I tell aluminum from copper-clad aluminum?
The jacket legend normally states aluminum, AL, or AA-8000 series for solid aluminum. Copper-clad aluminum is usually marked CCA. If the print is unclear, a photo of the cut end helps, because CCA shows a copper skin over an aluminum core.
Do you buy partial reels of aluminum SER?
Yes. Partial SER and SEU reels from service work are a normal submission. Give the remaining footage and a photo of the tag and the conductor ends.
Do you buy URD triplex?
Yes, single-conductor and triplex URD are both reviewed. Note whether the cable is aluminum or copper and whether the neutral is concentric.
Is aluminum worth selling as wire rather than scrap?
Usually yes when it is identifiable and unused, because a usable reel is worth more than recovered metal. Once the identification is gone, the value falls back toward metal content.
