Sell THHN, THWN and XHHW building wire

THHN, THWN, THWN-2, XHHW and XHHW-2 in #14 through 1000 MCM, from full factory reels to the partial reel left at the end of a job.

Building wire is the highest-volume surplus category in Indiana. Every commercial job orders more than it installs, every distributor carries sizes that stop moving, and every contractor ends up with a shelf of partial reels that are too valuable to scrap and too small to schedule.

THHN, THWN and XHHW are all 600V building wire, differentiated by insulation, jacket and the conditions they are rated for. THHN and THWN are often dual-marked on the same conductor; XHHW is cross-linked polyethylene and appears frequently as feeder and in wet locations.

We buy full reels, partial reels, opened cartons and unused cut lengths in copper or aluminum. The key detail is the printed size and the footage remaining, because a 500-foot reel and a 60-foot coil are different products even when the print is identical.

What we buy in this category

  • THHN and THWN in #14 through 500 MCM, solid and stranded
  • THWN-2 in wet-location and exterior work
  • XHHW and XHHW-2, copper or aluminum, #12 through 1000 MCM
  • MTW, TFFN and fixture wire in small coils
  • Building wire in black, white, red, blue, green and other colors
  • Full 500 ft and 1,000 ft reels, plus opened reels
  • Cartons of cut lengths and loose coils
  • Feeder sizes from 1/0 through 1000 MCM
Spools and cartons of THHN building wire in multiple insulation colors on distributor shelving
Color, size and stranding are usually printed every few feet along the jacket.

Building wire types and how they differ

The type printed on the jacket tells you the insulation, the temperature rating and where the conductor is permitted.

Color matters less than size and footage. Mixed-color reels of the same size can be quoted together. Sizes and types should be grouped, because a mixed pile of #12 and 4/0 cannot be priced as one material.

What makes a submission easy to price

Building wire is the easiest category to describe accurately, because every reel carries the same information.

  • Reel tag with footage, size, color and manufacturer
  • Printed legend showing THHN, THWN-2 or XHHW and the AWG or MCM
  • Whether the reel is full, opened or partly used
  • Number of reels per size and color
  • Whether the wire is solid or stranded

Condition and quantity

Factory-sealed reels with tags are the cleanest submission. A photo of the tag and the reel face is usually enough for a quote.

Opened reels are normal. Estimate the remaining footage from the tag and the wraps left on the reel; the estimate is confirmed at pickup, not argued over by email.

Wire that has been pulled through conduit can still be reviewed if the jacket is intact and the print is readable, but it is priced as used material and needs clear photos of the conductor.

List each size and type with its approximate footage, then add photos of the reel tags. Mixed-color lots are welcome.

  • Photos speed up review more than anything else
  • Cable markings, jacket legends and reel tags help us identify the product
  • No obligation and no cost to submit

What you have

Photos

Most useful: whole reels or spools, the printed cable markings and jacket legend, reel tags and labels, and a clear photo of the wire ends. Phone photos are fine.

Submitting this form does not commit you to sell and does not guarantee a purchase. We review condition, identification and quantity before quoting.

THHN and XHHW questions

Do you buy opened reels with only part of the footage left?

Yes. Partial reels are a normal part of this category. Give the tag footage and an estimate of what remains, and note whether the reel has been stored indoors.

Can I combine several sizes into one submission?

Yes. Group the material by type and size, list the reels and footage for each group, and photograph each group. One submission can cover a whole shelf.

Do you buy THHN that was pulled and then removed?

It is reviewed case by case. Intact jacket and readable print are the minimum. Pulled wire is valued as used material, not as new surplus.

What is the smallest quantity worth submitting?

A single 500-foot reel can be worth submitting if it is a common size. Below that, it usually needs to be part of a larger lot to justify pickup or freight.
